Toe rings, tragus rings and ear streachers: strange and ancient body jewelry

Body Modification shows how we think about ourselves, our religion and culture. It narrates one's personality starting from ears to toes. Ear piercing has been a form of body modification since ancient times. It has been found mainly in tribal cultures. There are evidences that, in Persian and Persepolis civilizations, men wore earrings and toe rings as well.  Toe rings come in as many designs as finger rings, but toe rings differ in a manner that they have a small hole in the bottom of it so that they can slip and hold the toe-tips conveniently.

As far as ear piercing is concerned, we can modify our ears as per the latest fashion, trend, culture and custom. The parts of ear we can beautify are Helim, Rook, Sung, Conch or Shell, Daith Lobe, Tragus and Anti-Tragus. Different size of rings can be worn according to one's liking. There are some constraints as ear is a very sensitive part of human body. Therefore, we should wear as little weight in ear as possible. That is why tragus rings are mainly small in size as tragus does not have much space to modify. If one wants to sport big tragus rings, he should have big ears.

Now comes another form of body modification which is very popular, it is called ear streachers.  Ear streachers or tapers made of plastic, silicon, steel, bone or stone with a size of 16g to once inch, are inserted in the ear to create a hole. Unlike other body piercings and stretching, ear streachers are not irreversible. It cannot be re-closed naturally once we have removed jewelry. It requires plastic surgery to repair.

Therefore, it is better not to use an ear stretcher beyond 00 gauge in size (which is 10 millimeters). Keeping in mind all these information, we can have a better ear modification.
